Once a thriving centre for the textile and furniture industries, today’s Shoreditch is a vibrant and eclectic area, both in terms of its buildings and its residents. Its industrial past is clearly visible throughout the urban landscape in the form of spacious warehouses and lofts, now converted into much sought-after contemporary apartments.

Yet despite its manufacturing heritage, Shoreditch has always attracted artists and creatives – William Shakespeare and Damien Hirst both lived here – and this history was reflected in the cultural rebirth that Shoreditch experienced in the 1980’s. Attracted by the beautiful warehouse properties, many artists, musicians and creatives moved into the area. Energized by this influx of new residents, Shoreditch soon positioned itself at the cutting edge of modern culture, famous for its own avant-garde style and atmosphere.

The residential property in Shoreditch is a diverse mix of classic London town houses, modern apartments and stylish warehouse Developments. While the area remains popular with creative types, it is also a firm favourite with financiers, lawyers and a whole host of City professionals.

Although just a stone’s throw from London’s financial district, the area hasn’t always felt connected to its neighbour, but massive regeneration together with an influx of well-heeled bankers has brought it unmistakably to “the edge” of the City. In fact Stirling Ackroyd played a significant role in Shoreditch’s evolution. As a small group of pioneering entrepreneurs back in the 1980’s, we set up a small office on Curtain Road and played an integral part in the subsequent regeneration and development which today sits smartly alongside the historic buildings. The newly-opened East London Line extension linking Shoreditch to the southern suburbs can only serve to increase the area’s popularity.
