Living in West End

The West End is a diverse area covering Kings Cross, Fitzrovia, Bloomsbury, Covent Garden, Holborn and Soho.

Historically it has been world renowned for its literary heritage, its theatrical fame and the luxury properties that have lined its squares and streets. First developed in the 17th and 18th centuries, the West End offers a fascinating mix of Georgian houses and conversions, Victorian mansion blocks, mews and more modern social housing schemes.

Property in Covent Garden is hugely popular due to the fantastic flats and apartments on offer here, perfectly located near world famous shops, restaurants, bars and retail area. Property in Soho has a very different history, but now has massively regenerated into a vibrant and young place to live, combining bohemian living with contemporary apartments, in close proximity to a multitude of media companies.

Property in Bloomsbury and Fitzrovia is famous for mansion blocks, such as Bedford Court Mansions, and townhouses, but given the presence of UCL here it is little surprise to know that huge swathes of the area are popular with students. This makes the most of mansion block flats and ex-local authority property, with Bloomsbury much sought after for international student housing in London. The areas surrounding this student accommodation is unsurprisingly full of upmarket chain restaurants and gastro-pubs, such as those in the Brunswick Centre.

The areas in which the West End office sees the most demand is for Lambs Conduit Street in WC1, Charlotte Street in W1 and in and around Seven Dials in Covent Garden . However in recent years the regeneration of property in Kings Cross has caught the headlines, with extensive redevelopment of the area surrounding the station. St Pancras Chambers are stunning apartments and the nearby townhouses are popular, but Kings Cross is known for its mix of old and new and the new developments such as Albion Yard and Regents Quarter attract many buyers to the area.

The two levels of Truckles have their own distinct characters, with one a cosmopolitan café and bar, and the other a self contained level with its own bar and dining facilities, perfect for a private party. Truckles offers excellent salads, with the Bang Bang chicken salad a West End office recommendation.

Ronnie Scott’s
Cocktails - ££
One of London’s oldest and most famous jazz clubs, the atmosphere of seeing a concert inside Ronnie Scott’s in Soho is hard to beat. Amazing cocktails in a luxurious atmosphere this is the perfect place to try classics like an Old Fashioned where you know it will be done impeccably.

British - £££
The oldest restaurant in London, established in 1798, this is a must have for every Londoner harking back to days gone by. Traditional British food such as classic game, oysters, and braised beef cheek is on offer.

The Lucky Pig
Cocktails - £££
Describing itself as a decadent drinking den in Fitzrovia this is a fantastic place to try either classic cocktails or the slightly unusual. Our West End office recommends the Midnight Reviver, Tanqueray infused with Camomile, Lime, Lillet & Cointreau.

The Booking Office Bar
Cocktails - ££
Reviving the tradition of a station café, the punch bowls on the bar and the old fashioned cocktails here are reminiscent of a Victorian era train station located under the beautiful arches of St Pancras. Tasty bar food is on offer, but try an East India Cocktail for a step back in time.

Paul Hamlyn Hall
British - £££
Situated at Gallery level within the Royal Opera House, this elegant restaurant has one of the best settings Lonon has to offer. Expect extremely elegant food that changes according to the season and performance, but consistently the desserts are some of the most beautiful in the City and the wine list is extensive.

Bea’s of Bloomsbury
Bakery - £
A really delightful bakery famed for creating the duffin, Bea’s of Bloomsbury is popular amongst locals who enjoy the delicacies on offer. A great stop off for a cup of coffee, but they also put on events such as movie nights.
