Pro-Working: The evolution of Co-Working

News at Stirling Ackroyd | 22/11/2017

The Co-Working movement started in around 2005 in San Francisco, based around the concept of brining the office structure to the freelancing community. Since then, the U.K. has been the most responsive European country and is deemed to lead the Co-Working market with the volume of spaces available but also the variety, accommodating start-ups, entrepreneurs and freelancers alike.

Here at Stirling Ackroyd, we have been advocates of the Co-Working movement since its start in the U.K. with East London and the City Fringes being a popular area for disused warehouse and office spaces to be converted into Co-Working environments for its creative and entrepreneurial tenants.

More recently, we have been working with Fora , who have created the Pro-Working concept, an evolution of the Co-Working approach. Fora wants to ‘reimagine our office experience by employing premium hotel-style service and design, innovative technology and a curated approach to resident activity’. They have achieved this by adding some premium features to the existing model and adopting a community approach rather than a functional one. These features include:

  • Lobby reception & concierge service
  • Ultimate flexibility – 5 lounges, 16 phone booths and a reading room
  • Professional event space with state of the art AV with tiered seating for 50
  • PALATINO restaurant by Stevie Parle
  • Constantly connected – 3GB superfast fibre WI-FI
  • Makers Corner – printers, scanners, shredder, faxes, photocopiers & a workbench for finishing & binding
  • Stocked up – 2 kitchens with complimentary hot drinks & snacks
  • Body & soul – Wellness & fitness studio
  • Soap & storage – 6 wet rooms with complimentary shower products and towels

Additionally, Fora are working with the revered Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) on a research study that is examining how to optimise the use of office space. Bisnow has reported the study in further detail.
