We caught up with the newly appointed Sales Manager of the Shoreditch branch, Matthew Powell...

Hi Matt, congratulations on the promotion! You must be pretty proud to have joined as a sales negotiator and now manage the sales department of SA's flagship branch. So, tell us....

What drew you to the property sector?

Thank you, so I’ve always had an interest in property and then whilst at school I secured work experience placements in both residential and commercial agencies. Based on my interests and seeing first hand how the property world worked I then went onto study Planning & Property Development at Nottingham Trent University before embarking on my career in estate agency at Stirling Ackroyd.

How long have you worked in property?

Coming up to five years.

What’s your favourite part of your role?

I really enjoy meeting all the different types of people the area has come to attract which in turn has allowed me to see the difference in properties the area has to offer.

What’s your most memorable moment at Stirling Ackroyd?

Three and a half weeks in to the job as a sales negotiator, I sold my first property in excess of £1m which I had always set as a personal goal, which five years ago a £1m property was a lot less common than it is now.

What advice would you give for someone looking to start a career in property?

Try and gain experience in as many different sectors as you can to determine which route you want to go down, once you have decided throw yourself in head first and fully immerse yourself in the role.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

To be honest I’ve not seen enough of the world to make an informed decision however ask me in another five years and hopefully I'll the answer.

Describe your dream home…

Being a bit of a country bumpkin at heart it would have to be a farm, or at least a period house with some land. Having grown up around dogs and horses I couldn’t imagine life without them. Ideally it’d be close to a lake or river and a good village pub is essential. Whilst in the city I would settle for a large, lateral warehouse space in or extremely close to the Shoreditch Triangle (we can all dream).
