About Whitton

Whitton is perhaps the most affordable town in the Borough of Richmond, but it does not compromise on quality. It is a popular residential suburb both for tenants and buyers and is bordered by Twickenham, Richmond and Hampton.

It has a good selection of locally owned shops and businesses, including many places to eat, drink and relax. There is also an award winning butcher. If you are looking for a wider choice of shops and entertainment, the Treaty Centre in Hounslow and Ivybridge Retail Park are both nearby and offer a larger selection.

With Twickenham as a neighbouring town, Whitton provides an ideal location for families needing more space and investment buyers requiring affordable second homes within easy reach of London Waterloo. Whitton is a fun and safe area to live, it has a village feel and there is a friendly community atmosphere.

Whitton has a rich history. The Market Gardens, more famously known as the Cabbage Patch was renowned for flowers, apples as well as plum and pear orchards. In 1907, the Cabbage Patch was brought by Billy Williams and was re-developed into a rugby ground – today, Twickenham Rugby Ground on Whitton Road is the home of English Rugby. Another key landmark in Whitton is Kneller Hall, currently occupied by the Royal Military School of Music. It was once a stately home and takes its name from Sir Godfrey Kneller who purchased the original Manor House. In the summer, Kneller Hall opens its gates to the public for summer concerts. This event combines fantastic entertainment with the opportunity for concert-goers to bring along their picnics whilst enjoying music performed by the Military School.

The area positively embraces its community with a variety of youth groups, schools, churches and community groups. The community is currently all united together twice a year by the Whitton Business Association who hold a “Christmas Extravaganza” event in November and a St. George's Day Parade and Fun Day in April on the main high street. With its great transport links, Whitton is well placed to visit some of London's Royal Parks, the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew, Hampton Court Palace and enjoy walks along some beautiful stretches of the River Thames.

State Primary and Junior Schools in Whitton include Chase Bridge Primary School, Bishop Perrin C of E Primary, Chatsworth Primary School and St Edmunds Catholic Primary School.

State Secondary Schools in Whitton include The Heathland School, Waldegrave School, Randor House and St. Mark's Catholic College.

Whitton has excellent transport links into the capital as well as around the local area.

Whitton train station is 35 minutes from London Waterloo, and trains run on average four times an hour during peak times. This makes Whitton a great location for commuters. Whitton station is located within Travelcard Zone 5. Nearby, there is also Hounslow which offers three underground stations, served by the Piccadilly line this also provides easy commuter access into London.

Located north of the A316, 1 mile west of Twickenham and 3 miles west of Richmond, Whitton provides direct access to the M3 and the M25.
