A guide to… Northfields

15 December 2021 / Area Guides, Buying, Selling

Northfields boasts two large green spaces, Lammas Park and Walpole Park. Lammas Park is a 25 acre park which is very popular with runners, walkers and those looking to relax. Its name derives from lammas, land on which manor tenants could graze cattle after a harvest in medieval times. Lammas Park consists of two areas, the Northern side which has paths, trees, shrubs, a nature area, bowling green, croquet pitch, tennis courts and a young children’s play area and the southern side, which is much more open, with lots of space for football pitches and another playground.

Walpole Park is the other lovely park in Northfields and is just across the road from Lammas Park. It has a play area for young children and hosts the Ealing Summer Festival, offering a variety of world music and comedy, attracting many visitors not just from the local area but also from surrounding towns and boroughs.

There are many listed buildings and history in Northfields. Rochester House, Place House (now King Fahad Academy for Girls), The Forester public house and Northfields Tube Station are all Grade II listed buildings and are well worth visiting to admire their architecture. Another place to visit to soak up the culture is the Questors Theatre, where you can see a range of theatre productions and other events.

State Primary and Junior Schools in Northfields include Fielding Primary School, Little Ealing Primary School, Oaklands Primary School and Lionel Primary School.

State Secondary Schools in Northfields include Fielding Primary School, Little Ealing Primary School, Oaklands Primary School and Lionel Primary School.

Private Schools in Northfields include Elthorne Park High School, Brentside High School and Brentford School for Girls.

Northfields benefits from excellent transport links in and out of London. Northfields tube station is located in Travelcard Zone 3 and is served by the Piccadilly line. This service provides direct links into London and Heathrow Airport. Ealing Broadway tube station is currently served by the Central and District lines and will soon be served by the new Crossrail service.

If you prefer to travel by road, Northfields has easy access to the M25 and M4 meaning you can easily get into London or down to the south coast. Northfields also offers a good bus service taking you in the direction of Ealing, Brentford, Chiswick, Hanwell and beyond.
