A guide to… South Norwood

Although it is located in Croydon (a renowned urban area), South Norwood offers fantastic access to wide open green spaces where residents can escape the city life. On a clear day there are fantastic views from Beulah Hill and Upper Norwood, sometime you can see as far as Kent and Surrey. South Norwood Country Park, stretching 125 acres, is another great location to relax in. It offers a wild flower meadow, pitch-and-putt, children’s playground and several designated cycling paths.

If you like to keep fit and active, South Norwood Leisure Centre is open seven days a week and offers a gym with a weights section, swimming pool and separate learning pool as well as a group exercise studio with a great range of classes. Croydon Sports Arena is also located within the South Norwood area and with its eight lane running track and training area for throwing events, this is a great place for budding athletes. If you are into your football, why not visit Selhurst Park Football Stadium, the current home of Crystal Palace Football Club.

Water sports and fishing enthusiasts can take advantage of the facilities on offer at South Norwood Lakes. Enclosed in 28 acres, it is one of the most relaxing locations in South Norwood and is home to Croydon Sailing Club and is also a popular location for carp, bream and perch fishing. Other facilities on offer include a basketball court, tennis courts, cricket wickets, bowling green and children’s play area.

State Primary and Junior Schools in South Norwood include The South Norwood Academy, All Saints C of E Primary School, Ryelands Primary School and Cypress Primary School.

State Secondary Schools in South Norwood include Harris Academy South Norwood, St. Mary’s Catholic High School, Edenham High School and Oasis Academy Arena.

Private Schools in South Norwood include St. Mark’s C of E Primary School.

There are many excellent transport options in and around South Norwood, so you can easily get to wherever you need to go.

For those travelling via train, South Norwood train station is located within Travelcard Zone 4 and is served by Southern and London Overground trains, with journey times to central London taking between 10 and 20 minutes. From Norwood Junction it takes approximately 25 minutes to reach London Victoria and 17 minutes to reach London Bridge. This station will also provide you access to West Croydon, Highbury and Islington.

It is also easy to get in and around South Norwood by road. There is an excellent bus service which passes through South Norwood onto West Croydon, Elephant and Castle, Wallington, Anerley, Lewisham, Crystal Palace and New Addington. There is also easy access to the Tramlink service from Harrington Road you can catch a tram to Beckenham Junction, West Croydon and East Croydon.
