Earlsfield’s name comes from the Victorian manor that once stood on Allfarthing Lane.
Sold to the London & South-Western Railway (1884), the previous owners insisted that the name be retained for the station, and in 2012 the station had a £5.6 million revamp with the main entrance reconstructed, lifts installed, boosting accessibility and creating much needed step-free access.
And so, Earlsfield’s journey from Victorian grandeur to accessible greatness continues to this day. We meet Simon Powley, Property Sales Manager at Stirling Ackroyd’s Earlsfield’s branch on Garratt Lane, and he tells us more.
“Our clients love Earlsfield because you are in town, but it still feels like a village,” he explains. “Earlsfield really is an up-and-coming area with a pretty limitless amount of things to do and enjoy,” he continues.
“Just a 13-minute train ride to Waterloo, residents enjoy brilliant brunches, cool bars, great restaurants and inviting green spaces, all within close proximity to central London life. Some of the most popular areas to rent or buy homes are found off Garratt Lane from Earlsfield station to Burntwood Lane and off Earlsfield Road.”
This lesser known, cosy corner of London offers a magical mix of the attractive terraced Victorian and Edwardian homes with easy and open access parks and a great choice of outdoor spaces. The perfect place for those that love a stroll with small humans or canine friends.
“There is something for everyone here,” Simon continues. “Good schools, great coffee, reliable transport routes to central London. Add to that, a real sense of London history, and you have a great place to call home. Schools, in particular, are a serious consideration. Earlsfield has some wonderful primary and secondary schools to choose from.” (Check out some of the locally outstanding schools, and their catchment areas – Click here)
