5% Deposit Solutions For First Time Home Buyers Ending Soon

Are you a first time buyer that wants to get on the property ladder in 2022?

At Stirling Ackroyd, we specialise in supporting every customer every step of the way. So, if you want to find a new-build property to call home, help is at hand. Let Stirling Ackroyd show you the way.

Head of Land and New Homes at Stirling Ackroyd, George Davey

My team and I pride ourselves on the quality properties that we offer and the practical guidance that we can offer First Time buyers. With so many fantastic new build properties on the London and Surrey markets, finding the perfect flat or off-plan house is hard but not impossible. For many, the main challenges are financial, and typically that means making a modest deposit stretch when it comes to raising a purchase amount.

The good news is that the UK government’s Help-to-Buy equity loan scheme is still live and kicking. With a 5%(+) deposit, first time buyers in London can borrow up to £40,000 against their first home mortgage, all at a preferential interest rate. In effect, the scheme reduces your initial bank mortgage and offers extended payment terms to make repayments more affordable – a serious boost in the early days when home moving costs and fit-out expenses are needed.

It’s a great scheme that many of our customers have used. More than 339,000 first time buyers have bought homes this way. But time is running out. Applications for loans must be received before October this year, even though the scheme officially ends in March 2023. If you are looking to buy your first home, get in touch and we can help you find the property and finance you need.

This is an ‘equity loan’, which means the repayable amount rises or falls with the home’s value, and is repaid when the home is sold.

Are you eligible for a help-to-buy loan?

You must be:

  • 18 or over
  • A first time buyer
  • Living in the UK

  • Your deposit can be as little as 5%

Cons:

  • Only available on new build properties signed up to the scheme
  • You can only buy properties up to a certain value
  • The loan becomes more expensive after the interest free period ends
