From start to finish, let us help you create the perfect Race Day
Every year, the world’s top rowers come together to compete in one of the most prestigious rowing competitions in the world – the Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race. Competition is fierce, and only the best of the best men and women compete and, ultimately, make it to the finish line a winner.
From Putney to Mortlake, the banks of the Thames will be alive once more on Sunday 3rd of April (2022). An estimated 250,000 riverside revellers will roar as teams pass by the banks of the historic Tideway route that winds its way through the neighbourhoods of Putney, Fulham, Hammersmith and Chiswick in South West London. Delightfully deafening, this event will be loud enough, perhaps, to chase those Covid-blues down the river and off into the wild blue yonder for good and all!
One of the highlights of the local event calendar, my friends and I will also be there this year, excited and ready to enjoy the sights, sounds, delicacies and delightful buzz of Putney in summertime, once more.
My favourite part of London, Putney really is one of those areas that you can’t help but love. It’s got a great year-round vibe, and there really are some fantastic bars and restaurants to explore. So, if you’re planning to visit the area for the Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race, or any time before or after, then be sure to come and check out what Putney has to offer! You’ll be spoilt for choice. Cosy and quaint, or lively as you like – day or night there’s something for everyone to enjoy here.
The Race Route 2022 – Great Places to Meet
Drinks in hand, our favourite place to be, the day of The Boat Race, is with friends and family at The Duke’s Head, close to the starting line. Check out our Putney Raceday Pub and Bar Favourites CLICK HERE
Fire the starting gun! And they’re off. The teams start at Putney, rowing past The Boat Race Fan Park, on the Fulham side, then down past The Crabtree pub, close to Fulham Palace Road. Heading for Hammersmith, the teams glide past the old Harrods Depository, The Blue Anchor, The Rutland, The Dove and The Old Ship – close to the Wainwright Fan Park. And so, the river bends. With Chiswick in sight the teams know that the final approach is near, and we can see them push for glory as they sprint past The Bulls Head, The White Heart and The Ship – then home to glory. May the best team win!
