Stirling Ackroyd – Bringing Local Expertise to Brixton

07 February 2022 / Area Guides

A vibrant London village with a big heart, Brixton has it all. Food. Music. Family facilities. Excellent transport links. The list goes on…

Add to that a heady mix of Victorian properties, state-of-the-art conversions and affordable new build properties, and this urban haven, just minutes to Central London by Tube, becomes a neighbourhood to watch in 2022.

Stirling Ackroyd opened its first Brixton branch in February 2022,  a strategic opening that met a very specific and glaring customer need. Quality property supply in this fast developing borough remains a serious challenge for most estate agents, however Stirling Ackroyd’s business, built on decades of expertise, offers a solid foundation of deep local knowledge and community connection, making us perfectly placed and commercially cued to find our clients what they need, when they need it.

“Brixton is a fantastic and exciting opportunity for Stirling Ackroyd. We love the area, and are meeting and working with the local community so that we can offer a full range of  properties to clients at every age and stage – from first time buyers to those looking for their forever family home.”

Kieran Hogan, Brixton Sales Manager

As any long-term resident will tell you, Brixton has changed over these past 10 years, and it really has become a go-to destination for those that want a life in the heart of things.

A place with a genuine feel-good factor, the area always had an air of authenticity about it – a vibrant community life full of rich history, and a haven for creatives, artists and musicians. But for all the change, Brixton still buzzes with positivity and life.

Brilliant bars, smooth sounds, the beat of the base, and sensational smells of every conceivable variety, Brixton is a place where even a morning coffee can be a near religious experience. London-roasted beans, ground with precision and brewed to caffeinated velvet perfection. Sigh….

With a Zone 2 underground station, Brixton residents have easy access to London Victoria, and beyond. Modern amenities, coupled with the convenience for daily commuting to town in just 15 minutes (or less) means that for those that work in the city, there really is no better place to be!

All that is good about big city local life exists in Brixton, and because of this, the area has (deservedly) become one of the capital’s most engaging and popular neighbourhoods. There’s always something new to do here, and this vibrant village has what it takes to feed the senses and move you – body and soul.

When it comes to London neighbourhoods, it’s hard to beat Brixton for its mix of markets, nightlife, and multiculturalism. This part of south London is bursting with life and colour, and it’s a great place to explore – any day of the week!

David Lewis, Brixton Lettings Manager, Stirling Ackroyd, Brixton

Stirling Ackroyd is delighted to open its new branch in Brixton (insert address here), and our team, many of whom have family ties and community roots in the area, have put together some Great Things to Do in Brixton – highlighting brilliant things to see and do. So, come on! Discover a great part of London, and get ready for a memorable time down in the Village

The electric atmosphere of Brixton is felt not only in its music, but also through the streets, and the bright and lively Electric Avenue is one of the most famous in south London.

In the 1880s, a grand new shopping parade opened here – one of the first shopping areas in the capital to be illuminated by electric lighting! And so, Electric Avenue was born. An absolute must if taking a visit. A place of paradise for those with time to shop. Here you’ll find everything from fruit to fashion, laptops to lemons – all at a very competitive price!

In 2016, Eddie Grant turned on the lights on Electric Avenue. In 1981, he had a hit with a song of the same name!
This undated photo by writer, artist, photographer and eccentric Frederick Rolfe shows off Electric Avenue at its finest, decorated for Christmas with electric lights ablaze.

Restaurants and shops line these colourful narrow walkways, with art displays on either side and, depending on the weather, live music playing. It’s easy to see why Brixton Market has become an unmissable spot for locals and tourists alike, as they go in search of a culinary and cultural London adventure!

Pop Brixton is home to 55 independent businesses. Restaurants serve the happy, and retailers trade their wares, while crafters and makers create and sell handmade items locally. There really isn’t anything this neighbourhood doesn’t have!

Brixton 2013. Four people meet in a pub and bond over their shared passion for beer. Time passes and they set out to make great local beer together, mindful that every great neighbourhood deserves a great brewery! And so, Brixton Brewery was born. Check out the Brixton Brewery Taproom Bar when you are in town, and taste this great local beer for yourself.

The Brixton Academy has a rich history that dates back to 1929. Once an old cinema, and subsequently a 70s discotheque (circa 1972), this now iconic venue opened its doors as a dedicated live music venue in 1981. A natural performance home for the supremely talented and those that boast gritty brilliance, this is a unique venue, now called the O2 Academy Brixton, has hosted some of the most iconic performances in modern music history. From The Smiths to Madonna, this Brixton temple to music is legendary. Make sure to check it out for yourself.

Windrush Square is home to Brixton’s Black Cultural Archives (BCA). Founded in 1981, the BCA is the only national heritage centre in Britain that is dedicated to collecting, preserving and celebrating the histories of African and Caribbean people. The BCA’s new building in Brixton, opened in 2014, offering access to the archive collection, and providing dedicated learning spaces, as well as hosting a programme of exhibitions and events. The pool is 165 ft long, 90 ft wide and holds 600,000 gallons, and in its current form it has been around since 1937. With everything you need, this outdoor swimming pool is amazingly popular, and there is lots of space for other fun and wellness activities like yoga classes! Plus there are group exercise classes, such as pilates, that will get your heart rate and your spirits moving! Click here to learn more.

Originally from Brixton, David Bowie is one of the most iconic musicians in history, and his memorial mural is directly opposite Brixton Tube Station. His musical influence lives on, and the mural is now protected for visitors to enjoy.

With classic properties and new developments coming on line daily,  there is something for everyone in Brixton. The buzz of Brixton Village is as unique as it is comforting, and for those looking for a city base with benefits, this is a place where everyone can feel at home.
