Stirling Ackroyd Marathon

23 May 2023 / Corporate News

On Friday 26th May, a team of Stirling Ackroyd Colleagues will take part in a 26.2-mile marathon around Central London in aid of Shooting Star Children’s Hospice.

Running a marathon requires perseverance, dedication, and a strong will but knowing that the end result will make a profound difference to the lives of children facing life-limiting conditions, is precisely why an inspiring group of Stirling Ackroyd colleagues aim to accomplish the 26.2-mile marathon around Central London.

Last year saw us raise over £30,000 taking part in several fundraising events, one of our most successful was the 145-mile bike ride around our Stirling Ackroyd branches. This year we hope to raise more by taking part in similar events. Our Easter Baking Challenge saw us kick start the fundraising for 2023 with over £1,000 raised.

Donations Please!

Shooting Star Children’s Hospice is a remarkable organisation dedicated to making every moment count for babies, children and young people with life limiting conditions, and their families.  They offer a range of services, including respite stays, day care, emergency care, and end-of-life care.

To donate to Stirling Ackroyd’s Marathon – click here. So far including Gift Aid we have raised just over £4,000.

Your donations can make a big difference:

Pays for a child’s name to be engraved on a star or leaf to hang on the memory trees in the bereavement gardens, giving families somewhere to visit and remember.

Pays for hand and foot casts and a memory box, giving families somewhere to keep and treasure precious moments and memories.

Funds the annual servicing costs of a cold blanket ensuring it is always available for families who want to say goodbye in their own time after their child has died.

Pays for an hour of support from the specialist Symptom Management team to help manage and ease a child’s symptoms.

Covers the cost of the Family Support Line for one week so that Shooting Star Childrens Hospice can be ready to answer any question and provide guidance to our 700 families.

Funds one night of emergency respite care.

Covers the cost of heating the hydrotherapy pool for three months. The hydrotherapy pools are a safe space for families to create special memories. The pool also provides physical benefits helping muscle tone and strength, enabling mobility not possible out of the water.

Pays for three months pre-bereavement support for a family, providing essential guidance on pain management, family and sibling support and anticipatory grief.

Pays for annual Memory Days for bereaved families, where families can visit the hospice and celebrate the life of their child with other bereaved families.

Would pay for a bed at the hospice for one week for respite of step-down care.
