It might come as something of a surprise, but five London Boroughs are ranked top for energy efficient homes in the country.
The largest percentage of highly rated homes of any local authority in the country lie in Tower Hamlets, says energy specialists BOXT, with 73 per cent of properties at a ‘C’ or above – where an ‘A’ is the highest Energy Performance Certificate rating given, ‘G’ the lowest.
Tower Hamlets has 33 percent better rated housing than the national average – 10 percent higher than the City of London, which lies in second place.
Hackney (58%), Southwark (57%) and Greenwich (55%) are also present in the top 10 for an energy performance rating of C or above.
According to Trust for London, this is because well-insulated properties tend to exist in “new build heavy” inner London boroughs where good loft and wall insulation, double or triple glazing and heat pumps are prevalent.
